Technology Integration – Questions?
As educators, we are constantly asking ourselves, “what can we do that will deliver our content to our diverse group of learners?” I take this question and try to find a way for technology to answer it.
I have a TV adapter for my computer, so I can put anything from my computer immediately up onto the TV screen. I have also loaded ALL of my music CD’s into my iTunes library and have organized the songs by the skill they teach – this way I can access them with very little delay, this really helps diminish transitions. Great songs from people like Dr. Jean Feldman and Jack Hartmann have also inspired numerous “videos” (this link will take you to my website – click on “Alphardy” or “Make A Rhyme”) that I have made or have helped the students make – this is a great way to transform material that you have into a presentation that will teach to all of the modalities – visual, auditory and kinesthetic (if you add actions).

Hi Lynn:
I saw your post on my blog and want to reply. We have a program called StRUT that our school is a member of. It is Students Recycling Used Technology. We take older donated computers and rebuild them for classroom use. That is how we got 30 machines. Most are between 350 and 700 speeds, but they work! We also have an empty ink cartridge program that earns the StRUT program between $800 and $2000 a year. We can buy needed parts with that and have used some of the money to help with projectors and the IVC unit. I have also written some grants. One got TV converters for all the classroom, another some desktop switches, another a digital camera, and another one got us the second TV to use with the IVC unit.
I provide the inbuilding tech support and we have two shared techs that come ones a month each. We also have a district person in charge of the network and he deals with the network programs and the lab in the media center.
Our kindergarten room has about 8 computers and uses a TV converter daily for instruction. They use Study Dog and another web based program for teaching beginning reading skills.
If you want to share more we can get a message going unit the message center.
I am out traveling this week and having to use web access from a hotel computer tonight (my wireless wouldn't find their network and this machine is SLOW).
Linda
Lynn,
I thought I would let you know that my whole family gathered around the breakfast table this morning to watch your alphabet video. We all really enjoyed it!
I plan to show it to my teachers, too.
By the way, did I detect a Southern accent from you?
Enjoy your Sunday!
